Electro-Acuscope: 2007 January. Spotswood my appaloosa was found in the paddock unable to move.
His right fore paralysed with no motor skills whatsoever. He was coaxed hopping three legged to the barn and acuscope therapy commenced. After 5 days of daily treatments he went from total toe dragging paralysis, to walking like an equine mine detector, able to move the leg to some degree but no real proprioception skills.
After a further 6 days where treatments were done every second day improvement was noticeable, and he began to trot and move about more freely. After 15 days he was moving totally normally and at 21 days I started walking him out leading off another horse. 27 days he was being ridden and felt great. Treatments were now only 2 – 3 times a week.
We had missed our local A & P show season and the NZ Showjumping champs which were the seasons goals, however by mid march Spotswood (Buddy) was feeling so good that I got a late entry into the Hawarden A & P show and he competed in the hunter rounds successfully. I credit the Acuscope to regrowing the damaged nerve tissue and allowing full and complete return to useful activity. Feburary 2009 at the NZ showjumping champs in Christchurch, Spotswood won the 1.20 – 1.30m national title.
